The Fashions of the 1980s

During the 1970s, the fashions were looser on the bottom and closer fitting at the top.  In the 80s, this trend was reversed and when both men and women began wearing looser shirts and the pants were tighter fitting.  During this time, the TV show Magnum PI was new and popular and that got men to start growing mustaches. Men’s hair was medium length in the the early 80s and by the late 80s, it was the influence of heavy metal music that started the very long men’s hair style.

Brand names like Calvin Klein and Ralph Lauren were gaining popularity and were soon household names. Madonna released her Like a Virgin single in the latter part of 84 and it didn’t take long for women to copy her look with a short skirt and leggings.

Shoulder pads where all the rage because of the TV shows Dynasty and Dallas and the ripped sweatshirt came from the movie Flashdance. Shopping for vintage clothing can be done online today and you can also dress for less when you find cheap womens clothes online.  Trends come and go but low prices on clothes is something that is here and seems to be hanging around.
