Caring for a lip piercing is very similar to caring for a tongue piercing. You should watch what you eat and be careful not to get any pieces of food caught in the wound. Always rinse with an antibacterial mouthwash after eating and drinking. You should also be cleaning your piercing regularly with either a saline solution (which is a mixture of salt and water) or a gentle anti-bacterial wash.
As tempting as it may be, never change your lip piercing body jewellery before it is properly healed, and try not to fiddle with it. Touching it too much can will increase the chances of infection. The healing process can take around 3 weeks – more with some cases. If it is causing you irritation, or is the wrong size then you should go and seek professional advice from the person who pierced you and they will be able to change it for you.
